The Arsenal manager isn’t willing to let go of these important stars.

Having had enough time to get to know the Arsenal squad including their strengths and weaknesses, Mikel Arteta is now in a position where he is able to make the tough decisions. There are some players that are worth keeping hold of and others who simply would be better off elsewhere.

According to a new report from 90min, Arteta has made it clear to fans and to the board that he has plans for Kieran Tierney and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The former shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as he is one of the players who has had a serious glow-up under the tutelage of Arteta, and they have spoken highly of each other in the past.

However, there was some speculation that Ainsley Maitland-Niles would leave the club after it was made clear he wasn’t happy with the number of minutes he was getting on the pitch. But many fans, including myself, did not want to see him leave.

More from Arsenal FC

Maitland-Niles is an embodiment of the traditional Arsenal way. He is both confident and composed on the ball, as he approaches every obstacle he faces with immense aplomb; his penalty against Liverpool in the Community Shield (to top off an incredible performance) personified this.

If this means that Arteta will begin to use Maitland-Niles more often in the future, then I am here for it. After all, he is one of the most versatile players at Arteta’s disposal so he should have no time giving him a run in the XI.

As for Tierney, we can only hope that he continues to put in the stellar performances he has been and remains injury-free. He is clearly the best player at the club in his position as his tencity and drive makes him perfect to bomb forward in the final third. His creativity is oftentimes spot on, which benefits the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
