The Manchester United goalkeeper is no pushover.

There’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition and this is exactly what the Manchester United fans would like to see. According to Goal, Dean Henderson has fired a warning shot to David de Gea, warning the Spaniard that his plans are not to warm the bench.

The English goalkeeper will be returning to Old Trafford after a successful loan spell to the newly promoted Sheffield United, wherein their first season they defied all odds by finishing ninth in the EPL table. Henderson’s heroics between the sticks helped them to achieve this.

But there was much division among the Manchester United camp, with half wanting to keep Henderson and give him first-team football and the rest thinking it would be more beneficial to send him out on loan for another season while he develops more.

More from Manchester United

To me, it makes the most sense to give Henderson some time in the starting XI. After all, he has earned it. He has played much better than de Gea this season and let’s not forget, Sheffield United hadn’t invested nearly as much as United did in their defence. De Gea has simply made too many mistakes, especially since project restart.

This could easily be a bad patch of form, which wouldn’t surprise me given the quality de Gea possesses. However, one thing cannot be denied; it’s certainly a nice problem for the Red Devils to have, two top-quality goalkeepers both fighting for a place in the starting XI.

Manchester United will be playing in the UCL next season, so it’s certainly a great pedestal for Henderson to try and impress his international manager Gareth Southgate, as he assembles the team he wants to take with him to the postponed Euro 2021.
