Still, it’s a fairly nice luxury for Arsenal to consider.
Arsenal, since the takeover from a certain Stan Kroenke, have not been the sort of club to splash out on unnecessary players. Perhaps to the annoyance of fans from time to time, they are much more prudent (and most of the time far too laid back) in their transfer policy). Unlike other top EPL clubs, the Arsenal owners are not close with the club and so it just feels like a business to them.
Anyway, I’m sidetracked. Enough of the Arsenal rant, because there could actually be some positive news for us fans soon. It’s essentially chip paper news now that we are interested in signing Philippe Coutinho, with Barcelona likely to sell him.
But this may not need to happen anymore, given the latest news regarding Dani Ceballos. According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are close to completing a loan extension with Real Madrid for the Spanish international, after he impressed fans and new manager, Mikel Arteta, during his season in North London.

With Ceballos returning on loan, the Gunners will have the creative firepower in midfield that will certainly help them to exploit the opposition in the final third. This means they may not need to sign Coutinho, since the two offer similar traits.
Either way, it’s a nice problem for Arsenal to have and I certainly would not be complaining if we signed both of them. In fact, I would be over the moon. My point is that should one of the signings fall through or deemed surplus to requirements but the other goes ahead, then we should not give the board a hard time for it. They would have done well either way.
Philippe Coutinho is an established professional and has plenty of experience at the top level, which includes carrying Liverpool during his time in Merseyside, where he has plenty of good performances at Emirates Stadium.
Do you think Arsenal will sign Philippe Coutinho?
