Chelsea aren’t messing around this summer.

Three things are inevitable in this lifetime; Death, taxes, and Chelsea making another big summer signing. Well, that’s what the journalist Kevin Palmer has to say, anyway. He took to Twitter to claim that talks between the club and Edouard Mendy had reached a “critical stage”, although he did claim that Chelsea are keeping their options just in case.

Mendy ages at 28 years old so he is currently playing at the peak of his potential. Having had an impressive season with Rennes, where they finished higher than expected in third, he will arrive at Stamford Bridge with plenty of enthusiasm.

It’s this level of enthusiasm and willingness to commit and succeed which Frank Lampard needs going forward. After falling out with Kepa Arrizabalaga, he needs to stamp his authority and make himself clear that only players who buy into his philosophy will be welcome at the club, as this will inspire the younger players they are in safe hands going forward.

Chelsea can be reassured that they are in safe hands. According to Metro, it’s the legend Petr Cech, Chelsea’s greatest goalkeeper of all time, who is pushing for the move to happen. If anyone knows what it takes to make a great goalkeeper, it’s the Czech international.

Mendy is very good at getting low to prevent shots, but as he hits the ground he is rapid at getting back to his feet and retaining his frame. That said, EPL fans can expect to see some more stellar double saves if he makes the moves. Much like David de Gea, Mendy is also no stranger to using his feet to prevent shots, although luckily he makes far fewer mistakes than the Spaniard.
