This could end up a mistake easily avoided if Chelsea make the right decision.

There are no two ways about it, Chelsea, much like many other clubs, need to shift their deadwood this summer. Especially for the Blues since they have been on a frenzy of signing some top quality players, so in order to protect the squad harmony, they need to let go of some players they can’t guarantee minutes on the pitch.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is certainly one of those players. When Frank Lampard sent the midfielder out on loan, it was pretty much indicative of the English manager’s stance. He sees no room for Bakayoko in the squad.

He has performed pretty well for AC Milan, much better than he would have in another season of EPL football, anyway. It seems like the Italian game suits him and his playing style, and Milan are quick to agree as they are eager to sign him permanently.

However, according to Gazetta dello Sport, the Italian club are not looking to spend more than £25m on Bakayoko, with the Blues insisting they want him gone for no less than £30m.

To me, this strikes me as a ludicrous move on Chelsea’s behalf since they need him gone and refuding to budge on his price is only going to lessen their chances of a sale. I mean, I know from a general point of view 5m is a huge number (and I would love that kind of money), but Chelsea aren’t going to lose any sleep over it. I mean, their simply unethical use of the loan system generated more than enough money for them.

Frank Lampard is steering the club in the right direction and to do so, he needs only players that he can work with and Bakayoko doesn’t seem to be one of them. It’s down to the board now to prioritise improvement over profit.
