#4 Mesut Ozil – €47 million (Real Madrid to Arsenal, 2013)

Arsenal stunned everyone by capturing Ozil in 2013 after he was deemed surplus to Real Madrid’s requirements, despite racking up 26 assists in the previous season.

Since then, he’s had an eventful seven years in North London as his time with the Gunners will not only be remembered for the stellar initial years, but also for his declining influence in the later years.

His best performance came in the 2015/16 season when he made a staggering 19 assists, whilst also guiding his side to FA Cup titles in 2014, 2015, and 2017.

In the last three years, however, a combination of injuries and loss of form has spelled a significant decline in performance. His spat with former manager Unai Emery during the 2019 Europa League final didn’t help his cause either.

Last season, he played only 18 games in the Premier League, contributing just three goals but remains determined to see out his contract which runs until next summer.

#3 Leroy Sane – €52 million (Schalke 04 to Manchester City, 2016)

To feature twice on this list is a testament to how highly rated Sane remains. When he joined Manchester City in 2016, he also became the most expensive German player at the time.

His sublime performances with the Royal Blues led to plenty of expectations from him in the Premier League, and he duly delivered.

He thrived alongside the likes of Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero, and despite finishing trophyless in his first season, played a crucial role in the barrage of silverware that followed in the next two years.

An ACL injury in his final season with the Skyblues saw him miss almost the entirety of the 2019/20 season, paving his way out of the club this year after 135 games and seven trophies.
