Arsenal aren’t messing around with this deal.

After what was a very topsy-turvy season last time out, Mikel Arteta has got his side on the right track, winning games and winning trophies. Arsenal got a win in their first game of the season against London rivals Fulham, which will be even more satisfying for Arteta since it was an away game, which the Gunners struggled with last season.

Bernd Leno reclaimed his space between the sticks, taking over from Emiliano Martinez who served the Gunners well by leading them to a FA Cup win. He has been at the club for many seasons, learning from the likes of Wojciech Szczesny and Petr Cech.

But all good things must come to an end. After manifesting stardom with the club he professes to love, the Argentine shot-stopper could soon be on his way out. According to a report from talkSPORT, he could finalise a deal which would see him move to Aston Villa today.

It’ll be a hard farewell, but not one that is impossible to make. It’s good to see that Arteta is being honest in his plans and not becoming too attached to the sentimentality of Martinez’s good form.

Arsenal fans needn’t panic, either. For a report from the Telegraph claims that Arsenal wish to sign a backup goalkeeper in the shape of Runar Alex Runarsson. Runarsoon plays in Ligue 1 with Dijon but also represents Iceland on an international level; a nation that comes together with immense solidarity when it comes to football. That said, he would bring a lot of passion to the role.

Runarsson is only 25 years old but is already rather established. That said, there is still plenty of time for the Icelandic international to develop into the player Arteta wants him to be.
