Arsenal are considering letting the Argentine leave on loan.

The loan system has treated Arsenal well in recent times, with Dani Ceballos playing at the Emirates Stadium over the last two seasons without the Gunners paying a fee other than his wages.

But now, it looks like Arsenal may use the loan system to benefit another club. According to a report from the Guardian, the Gunners could allow Lucas Torreira to leave on a season-long loan, as it’s likely he will move to Serie A to play his football.

Torreira will no doubt be a big miss to the Arsenal fans as there was a point in time where it looked like he was the most important player on the pitch. Indeed, he still puts in a good shift whenever he does play but Arteta has shown that the side can function without him in it, so he is by no means irreplaceable.

Torreira is a defensive midfielder whose main traits revolve around his ability to break up play and win back possession for his side. That said, Arteta now deploys wing-backs and a back-three, therefore they are more than capable to defend and the defensive record has improved tenfold under the new management.

In all honesty, we all saw this coming. When Torreira’s agent confirmed that he would be looking at options elsewhere, it always seemed right that the Gunners would let him go. After all, we only need players that tie into Mikel Arteta’s philosophy and want to achieve great things under his tutelage. If only the same outcome would apply to Mesut Ozil, Arsenal would be in a much better place for this season.

I suppose that Arsenal could be on the hunt for a replacement, but they are not in dire need of one. Of course, Joe Willock can play in Torreira’s position if we switch to a more defence-orientated midfield.
