The Gabonese striker’s new deal will see him at Arsenal until 2023.
After months of speculations that linked Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a move away from North London, Arsenal has been doing everything possible to keep their star at the club. Finally, they’ve been successful in doing so, securing the signature of Aubameyang on a new deal that will see the 31-year old make 60 million over the next three years, making him the highest earner in the squad. Numerous European giants were reportedly interested in his talents over the summer, including Barcelona and Real Madrid as they both looked to bolster their attack.
Last season was one to forget for Arsenal, finishing outside of the top six. The only positive was their FA Cup trophy, beating Chelsea in the final. However, Mikel Arteta‘s side enjoyed an impressive start to this term, beating Fulham 3-0 over the weekend, with Aubameyang scoring once while former Chelsea standout Willian collected two assists and was also involved in the third.
Since arriving at the Emirates from Borussia Dortmund in January of 2018, Aubameyang has been lethal in the final third, bagging 55 league goals in 86 appearances. He also finished in a three-way tie for the EPL Golden Boot in 2018/19, where he netted 22 times in his first full season with the Gunners. Last year, Aubameyang scored just as many goals, finishing just behind Jamie Vardy for the scoring title.

Without the Gabonese international leading the way up top, Arsenal frankly wouldn’t have enough firepower to make a run at the top four. Several key signings over the transfer window such as Willian and Gabriel have strengthened their squad in necessary areas, but securing Aubameyang’s future with the club had been one of the main priorities for Arteta and the higher-ups at Arsenal.
Wherever he’s played in his career, Aubameyang has been deadly on the attack. He’s one of the all-time leading scorers in Borussia Dortmund history and also scored at a mind-boggling rate for Ligue 1 side St-Etienne before his move to Germany. To have one of the most clinical finishers in the world at your club for the foreseeable future is a huge boost for Arsenal because he is a player who can lead the way as they look to return to Champions League football.
Aubameyang was very adamant that the Gunners dipped into the transfer market and made key signings as he saw clear weaknesses in the squad. The club was productive in doing so and in return, he made a long-term commitment to staying at the Emirates.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the type of player that Arsenal can build around. This is a massive signing for this club as they look to become one of the top clubs in England once again.
