León firmly atop Liga MX Rankings, Cementeros slide

Playoff scramble still possible for Liga MX also-rans

At least two of these teams will qualify for the Liguilla, so there is still plenty to play for as the Liga MX season turns toward the home stretch.

11. Querétaro (–1)

The Gallos Blancos were making a bid to be a dark horse in the Liga MX playoffs, but have not posted a win since Sept. 3.

12. Puebla (—)

The Camoteros are playing steady, smart soccer but lack firepower and that was evident in their shut-out loss against visiting Santos.

13. Toluca (+3)

The Diablos probably fired coach José Manuel de la Torre three weeks too late, but the shocking win over Cruz Azul could set the stage for a strong playoff bid.

14.  Atlas (–3)

The Zorros had been making positive strides under coach Diego Cocca but a home loss to last-place Necaxa is unforgivable. The setback could stunt their drive for a wildcard spot.

15. FC Juárez (–2)

The Bravos’ lack of talent is becoming more evident as the season progresses but their never-say-die attitude deserves mention even if the combination produces boring fútbol.

16. Necaxa (+2)

The Rayos ended a six-game winless streak and earned “Profe” Cruz his first victory since taking the reins on Sept. 7.

17. Mazatlán FC (–2)

The Purple Gang lost its third straight and that was the last straw for management. They’ll have all next week to carry out a coaching search in hopes of turning things around for the stretch run.

18. Atlético de San Luis (–1)

The Tuneros are a complete mess. They have the worst defense in Liga MX and a -13 goal differential.
