Arsenal supporters were greeted to a cathartic statement today.

Love him or hate him, there’s one thing nobody can deny; Mesut Ozil is an Arsenal legend. Arriving at the club almost a decade ago, he came with a great reputation as being one of the best players in the world. And for several seasons with the Gunners, he continued that reputation well.

He has pleased the Gunners supporters with his superb work on the ball and, of course, his immense creative ability. However, since Arsene Wenger left the club some seasons ago, Ozil has struggled to fit in with the times at Emirates Stadium.

Earlier today, the playmaker took to his social media accounts to speak up on the situation of him not being involved in the Premier League squad for this season. He expressed that he wasn’t happy with the decision, but he still wishes to remain loyal to the club and fight for his place in the starting XI.

According to a new report from the Daily Mail, Per Mertesacker has spoken out about the situation and offered his two cents. The academy manager and former Arsenal defender has claimed that Ozil has simply shifted his focus away from football, which could explain why he has struggled to make the team in recent months.

Of course, this is a fair claim to make. We know that Ozil has many business ventures, has recently become married and is starting a family. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that he has lost his love for football.

Let’s not forget, we live in a world now where footballers don’t have to be tied down to football. Especially with the climate of Coronavirus, players were beginning to branch out into other fields, but this doesn’t mean they’re any less worth as players because of it. Ozil is a human, he is not a robot.

Do you think Mesut Ozil will make it again at Arsenal?
