Mad scramble for Liga MX playoff berths

9. Pachuca (-2)

The Tuzos settled for a third consecutive draw against Santos on Sunday, effectively ending their hopes of a top seed. Still, Pachuca has given up more than 1 goal only once since their season-opening loss to América.

10. Necaxa (+6)

The Rayos have won two in a row to climb out of the cellar. With two winnable games before a season-ending visit to Pachuca, the “Electricistas” should claim a spot in the Liguilla.

11. Puebla (+1)

The Camoteros show promise, but lack finishing ability. Juan Reynoso’s team has only won once since August.

12. Toluca (+1)

The enigmatic Diablos just can’t get out of their own way. A bad mistake by goalie Luis García cost a valuable point at UNAM on Sunday.

13. Tijuana (-3)

The fates have been against the Xolos since the beginning of the Guardianes 2020. A Covid outbreak slowed down a promising start and it’d be no surprise if they emphasize the Copa MX Final over the playoff race.

14. Mazatlán FC (+3)

The newest Liga MX club finally got to play in front of home fans, but the 3-2 win might prove to be the high watermark of the season.

15. Querétaro (-4)

The Gallos Blancos are on a 6-game winless streak and Thursday’s loss at cellar-dwelling Atlético de San Luis was a tough one to swallow.

16. Atlas (-2)

The Zorros phoned it in against Chivas in a less-than-scintillating Clásico Tapatío. With América and the Tigres looming, the playoffs seem unlikely.

17. FC Juárez (-2)

The Bravos never found a replacement for Diego Rolán whose loan deal was not renewed and his scoring prowess was sorely missed.

The Tuneros are playing out the string, but they could play a spoiler role against Santos, Mazatlán and Puebla.
