Injury updates, rumors and other Liga MX news

Monterrey will be without Colombia defender John Stefan Medina who came back from FIFA break with an injury. Medina, who plays right fullback and central defense for the Rayados, is expected to miss the rest of the regular season so earning a first-round bye would be fantastic. But “La Pandilla” will have to win out and get some help to make that happen.

Guido Pizarro picked up a knock on his right calf and is doubtful for the Tigres’ Matchday 15 tilt against FC Juárez. The Tigres are already short-handed as defenders Hugo Ayala and Carlos Salcedo are in quarantine after contracting Covid-19.

Chivas midfielder Fernando Beltrán is unhappy over his lack of playing time. When Víctor Manuel Vucetich took over the club ahead of Matchday 5, he explained Beltrán’s absence by saying he was unfamiliar with the club and wanted to look at everybody. Then “El Nene” was stricken with Covid-19 and missed three weeks.

The 22-year-old Mexico City native admitted that he struggled to return to form after the symptoms receded (he complained of fatigue), but now that he is fit again he is still coming of the bench. There is concern that his relationship with “King Midas” is fractured and reports suggest he would consider leaving Guadalajara.

Goalie Camilo Vargas (virtually the only Atlas player worth his salary on the open market) is getting attention from European clubs and the Zorros could soon lose the only productive man on their roster.
