Even Chelsea will have regrets from the summer transfer window.

Chelsea currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, but they will drop one or two places depending on the result between Arsenal and Leicester City today. That said, I think it’s fair to say their signings haven’t lived up to expectations.

Frank Lampard made many big-name signings but the Blues aren’t looking any better off for it, although of course, we are still in the early stages of the Premier League season. But the signings need to pick up, as Edouard Mendy did in the recent goalless against Manchester United away from home.

So, should Chelsea have some regrets from the transfer window? Yes, of course they should. While their summer was overall positive, there were still some signings that Frank Lampard should have made but didn’t; as well as some squad problems that were left unaddressed.

More from Chelsea FC

One of the players that Chelsea were linked with heavily was Declan Rice of West Ham United. However, in the end, he remained on the Claret side of London. Well, according to the Daily Star, Lamnpard and company are still interested in signing Rice in January, however, West Ham wish to tie him down to a new contract.

So now the Blues find themselves in a rice against time to sign the England international, should they wish to. He would make a great signing for Chelsea due to his immense versatility and willingness to succeed at the top-level. He can play both as a midfielder and as a centre-back, which would serve Lampard well as he aims to craft the perfect squad with plenty of balance.

Chelsea shouldn’t be put off by West Ham’s stance. However, they should pay close attention to his situation as the aim should always be to sign him.

Do you think Chelsea will end up signing Declan Rice?
