Arsenal won’t be alone in their pursuit of this French midfielder.

All in all, Arsenal had a pretty successful summer transfer window. They strengthened in positions which needed strengthening and they also resolved a few of their squad issues. However, this meant they had to miss out on a few transfer targets, including Houssem Aouar, whom the club were strongly linked with.

Instead, Mikel Arteta got his man in Thomas Partey and he appears to be settling into the club’s culture well, although his first home start didn’t go to plan as the Gunners conceded a late Jamie Vardy header against Leicester City.

However, missing out in the summer seems to have only fuelled Arteta’s desire to sign Aouar. According to Tuttosport, Arsenal remain keen to sign Aouar. However, it won’t be as simple as it perhaps could have been in the summer; Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen to sign the Lyon midfielder.

More from Arsenal FC

If Arsenal continue their good form this season and look to be in a better place by the time January comes around, then they should have no problem battling against these European powerhouses. Of course, it’s more likely that Lyon would be willing to let their star player go in the next summer transfer window, so this may be a better option for Arsenal.

Aouar is an excellent creative attacking midfielder, so he would certainly serve as a great Mesut Ozil replacement. The former Germany international was not included in this year’s Premier League squad, so he will struggle to get game time this season and will be watching from the sidelines, with many now believing it’s time for him to be sold or to leave the club on his own accord.
