Sam Mewis was thriving from day one with Manchester City.

Sam Mewis is a household name in the United States. World Cup champion, 3-time NWSL champion, and National Champion are just a few of the accomplishments on this USWNT midfielder’s impressive resume. With the limited number of games being played in this year’s makeshift NWSL season, Mewis decided a new adventure abroad would give her the games and the challenge she needed leading up to next year’s Olympics.

Though her NWSL teammates felt her absence, her move to the WSL proved to be incredibly beneficial for Manchester City as they attempt to take home the league title and the 2020-2021 FA Cup title. Mewis seems right at home in England having integrated herself into the team and their style of play almost instantly.

Sam Mewis has only been in the Manchester City jersey for a couple of months and she’s already taking the city by storm. Manchester City started their November off with a bang by lifting the 2019-2020 FA Cup trophy as champions.

More from USWNT

Unsurprisingly it was 6 foot tall Sam Mewis who rose above the crowd to head in City’s opening goal of the match. Her goal marked only the second time a USWNT player has scored in an FA Cup final after Carli Lloyd did so in 2017, also with Manchester City.

Sam Mewis’ goal-scoring tally for City started with the game-winning goal against Arsenal in the FA Cup Semifinal, as she confidently laced the ball into the back of the net. As a USWNT standout, Mewis was expected to perform, and perform she did.

Manchester City returned to league play following the semifinals by dominating Tottenham in a game that saw a second-half goal from…you guessed it…Sam Mewis. This time her goal was the result of a give and go and a composed left-footed shot around the goalkeeper.

It’s still early in Sam Mewis’ Manchester City campaign, however if the past couple of months have been any indication, she’s sure to have a memorable season with the club. Even without crowds filling the stadium, all eyes are on Sam Mewis, anxious to see her continue to shine.
