Every club needs to make sacrifices to succeed, even Barcelona.

The opening of this La Liga season has certainly not gone to plan for Barcelona. After their scare of losing Lionel Messi in the summer, they have failed to live up to the expectation that keeping him brought the fans. They sit in eigth place of the Spanish top division, and don’t look to be turning it round anytime soon.

That said, the Catalans will be eagerly anticipating the upcoming January transfer window, although they still have a month and a half to wait. If they can grind out some wins between now and then and keep themselves on a better stead, then they will be able to strengthen in the market.

They already have a strategy in place, with one of their chief targets being Memphis Depay. New manager Ronald Koeman is a countryman of the Dutch forward so knows all about his amazing exploits and wants to sign him. Koeman, of course, being a manager that likes to stick with what he already knows as opposed to experimenting.

More from FC Barcelona

According to a report from Marca, it’s revealed that Barcelona will need to sell some players in the transfer window if they wish to make a revised offer for Memphis Depay. The Dutch winger is bound to be expensive as he approaches the prime stages of his career.

Depay suffered a short setback in his career while he was playing in England, but since moving to France to play with Lille, he has been incredible and regained his former form. He is an electrifying winger that likes to play directly, specialising with the ball at his feet.

That said, it’s pivotal that Barcelona sign him, even at such a cost. He is a cheaper alternative to Neymar and there’s more chance that Lyon will let him go than Paris Saint-Germain.
