The transfer rumours are still rife for Barcelona and Lionel Messi.

If you’re a fan of Barcelona, the summer was a stressful one. With essentially every neutral fan excited over a potential move away for Lionel Messi, it was very much an edge of the seat moment for every Barcelona fanatic.

The Argentine forward is their GOAT, so hearing rumours escalate that he wants to leave was never nice. Especially after serving the club throughout his entire career.

But, perhaps thankfully, the Barca fans got what they were hoping for and Lionel Messi remained at the Camp Nou, at least for another season.

More from FC Barcelona

As things are going, through, it’s not been the season Barcelona fans had hoped for. They currently sit in eighth place of La Liga table. Although, in fairness, they do have two games in hand on most of their competitors.

Should this season not go to plan for Messi, and so far it hasn’t, he will look at options elsewhere. Make no mistake, there will certainly be options for him to move.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City remain interested in signing the Argentine, but he also has the option to retire in the MLS with New York City.

In my personal opinion, it would be a shame to see Messi choose the MLS. He is known by many as the GOAT, and I think taking on another of Europe’s top five leagues will solidify this position for many people. After all, Cristiano Ronaldo has performed in four countries to the best of his ability.

I’m not saying Messi is above American soccer. Many great players have travelled to the States to end their careers. But what I am saying is, Messi can still compete; though he may not be showing it at this time, he is quite literally a superstar, and the Premier League could easily be made his own, especially under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola.
