Chelsea must not waste resources on Jerome Boateng
The English Premier League is a place which prides itself on displaying some fine defensive ability over the last few years. As one of the most iconic managers of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson, said, while attack may win you games, it’s defence that wins you titles. Chelsea are hoping to reap some of these rewards this season.
Their defensive ability has improved tenfold this season, at this stage of the season conceding just 10 goals is a fine achievement. Admittedly, they have been helped massively by the free signing of Thiago Silva, but the Blues must not fall into a trap of signing these kind of players.
While Thiago Silva may have worked, he was always destined to achieve at Chelsea. His age was never a factor, since he has been playing at the same level throughout his entire career, even in recent years.

Jerome Boateng, on the other hand, has not. The German international is remarkably inconsistent and, in all honesty, even showed signs of frailty when he was at the peak of his career. It’s for this reason that Frank Lampard must choose not to sign him.
According to Metro, it’s Chelsea that are facing competition from Arsenal and Tottenham over the signing of the Germany international.
But I would suggest one way to win this battle, by simply pulling out of the race. In the long-run, it’s Chelsea that would benefit. Boateng is an Arsenal-calibre signing, not one for where Chelsea want to be going forward. And trust me, I say that as an Arsenal fan.
Chelsea have all they need and more in Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva, who are displaying a terrific partnership already this season. Adding in the signing of Declan Rice in January, this would be the perfect defensive formula for Frank Lampard for the long-term, with Silva teaching the youngsters everything he knows.
