This Chelsea defender has been the most improved this season

Chelsea can thank Kurt Zouma for their great defensive record.
Heading into this Premier League season, Chelsea fans were most excited to watch how their attack would improve given their new signings. However, I don’t think anyone excpected their defence to be quite as solid as it has been.
Of course, the arrival of Thiago Silva from Paris Saint-Germain was bound to help since he is an experienced defender who has spent the majority of his career at the top level. But it’s not even the Brazilian who has taken centre stage at Stamford Bridge.
No, it’s been Kurt Zouma. The French international has been Chelsea’s best defender so far this season and it’s clear to see why Frank Lampard continues to start him.

Alongside Silva, Zouma is starting to blossom into a mature defender, which is great to see considering he is entering the prime stages of his career. He is certainly still learning under Silva, though, as his game has adapted since last season.
Now, Zouma is much more solid and spatially aware. He has always loved to put a foot in, but he is much more careful and measured in his approach to tackling this season. So much so, that Chelsea have conceded just 10 goals this season.
Many are applauding Zouma’s leadership qualities off the ball, too. He is very vocal which shows that he is confident enough in his own abilities to fix any errors his teammates might be showing. This will benefit Frank Lampard, because even he has limits to how much he can shout from the sidelines.
Chelsea fans will hope that Zouma only continues to improve, but one thing’s for sure; Zouma has been Chelsea’s most improved player this season. He deserves all the accolade he receives for his fine work.
What do you think of Zouma’s season so far?
