Arsenal could be ready to finally listen to their fans.

It wasn’t Mikel Arteta who chose to sign Nicolas Pepe, it was his predecessor Unai Emery. However, Arteta has still done all he possibly can to accommodate the Arsenal forward, to no real avail. This is no fault of his own, as it would seem that Pepe’s playing style doesn’t really suit the Premier League.

This is obviously hard for Arsenal to accept. They want to give him all the chances they can, for they must see something very special in him to make him the club’s record signing. But it’s important they face reality now before it becomes too late.

Pepe’s sending off last weekend against Leeds United was telling of his downfall in an Arsenal shirt. If it was not for this moment of recklessness, the Gunners could have gone on to win that match and stand on a much better foot.

More from Arsenal FC

According to a report from the Daily Star, Mikel Arteta and company are prepared to sell the 25-year-old if the right buyer comes along, even as early as January. Obviously, this doesn’t mean that the Gunners are actively looking to sell Pepe, but it means they are open to letting him go if the situation allows.

A situation that the Daily Star compared this to was that of Mesut Ozil, which is a fair comparison to make. The German international was once the club’s biggest and best player, but sentimentality meant the club kept him in their books for far too long and he remains the highest earner in North London, without even being featured in the Arsenal squad.

Arsenal don’t want the same to happen with Pepe, therefore you can understand the prudence in their bold decision. He is worth a lot still as he is yet to reach his peak as a player, so I would not be surprised if a suitor comes in to try and sign him.
