Barcelona need all the help they can get.

Barcelona are in a troublesome and worrying position. They sit seventh in the Spanish top division and, although they may have games in hand on most of the teams above them, they have not been promising this season.

Both on and off the pitch, it hasn’t been a season to remember for the Catalans. They are without a club president and it’s thought they will be until January. This is largely the reason why they haven’t been able to address perhaps their biggest problem; Lionel Messi‘s contract.

The Argentine is only tied down until the end of this season and from January onwards, he is free to discuss with other clubs to join them for free. Manchester City are thought to be the main culprits that wish to sign him, with Pep Guardiola salivating at the thought of rekindling with the best player he has ever managed.

According to a report from ESPN, Gerard Pique has given his two cents on the situation. The Spain defender has claimed that he thinks the club will “seduce” him into signing a new contract, which must mean he is optimistic about their club’s president hiring.

Of course, those who have followed football for some time will know to only take Pique’s predictions with a pinch of salt. After all, we all remember the infamous “Se Queda” (he stays) incident between him and Neymar; it only turned out to be false hope for the Barcelona faithful.

However, it seems more unrealistic to imagine Messi playing for another club other than Barcelona. He has spent his entire season in Catalonia and during this time, has become many people’s GOAT footballer (he is certainly my GOAT).
