Mesut Ozil’s work at Arsenal should be applauded.

Ever since before Mesut Ozil signed his current contract a few seasons ago, he has been linked with a move away from Arsenal. This is because the press have always felt he could be doing better than the performances Arsenal have shown in recent history, and perhaps his body language has suggested he doesn’t want to be at the Emirates Stadium.

But this couldn’t be further from the truth. Although I’ve had my problems with his on-pitch persona over the years, Ozil has never said a bad word about Arsenal. Even in today’s time under Arteta, where it would be easy for Ozil to feel excluded, he has remained loyal and supported the club from the comfort of his own home.

But even the most diehard of Ozil fans will feel like his time in an Arsenal shirt is coming to an end. And it’s reassuring to finally get some closure on this, because it means the Arsenal board can focus on the future.

More from Arsenal FC

According to journalist Berkay Tokgoz, Mesut Ozil has already agreed to play for Fenerbahce when his Arsenal contract comes to an end. In his tweet, he even went on to address Ozil’s new number, which will be 23, quite different to his favoured 10.

As for the future, Arsenal have what they need internally. Emile Smith Rowe has shown many promising performances in the last few years and especially under Mikel Arteta, he looks to be the creative force in the midfield. Let’s not forget, Thomas Partey can also play his part in the final third when he returns from his injury.

As for fans, we should applaud Ozil on his exit. His time may have dragged out longer than we would have liked, but he has certainly been one of the best players of the Emirates Stadium era and he was indicative of the professor that was Arsene Wenger.

Thank you, Mesut.
