Chelsea are oftentimes active in the transfer window as they are no strangers to splashing the cash. Roman Abramovich is known as one of the best owners in the world for the way he invests money into Stamford Bridge and it’s indicative of the way the club has grown in recent times.

In the summer, they broke their transfer record by signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen but many dub them to break the transfer record soon. The Blues are consistently being linked with the likes of Declan Rice and Erling Haaland.

Luckily for Abramovich and company, the former will be available for much cheaper. According to a report from 90min, Chelsea will need to pay around £50m if they wish to sign Rice in the summer.

For a player of Rice’s quality and versatility, this is not bad at all. Especially considering English clubs bizarrely add tonnes of inflation to the price of their homegrown players.

Nurturing at West Ham, Declan Rice feels at home in London. However, he will want to take the next step in his career. I feel like his place in the England squad is pretty much cemented, but it certainly would be if he signed for Chelsea.

Rice would surely only continue to improve at Stamford Bridge, especially if he has some time to learn under Thiago Silva, who is one of the greatest of all time in his position. Rice is always willing to learn from his environment so the experience of the Brazilian will serve him well and Rice would be his long-term replacement.

In conclusion, £50m to pay for Rice’s quality is something that shouldn’t be overlooked. The Englishman is one of the upcoming stars so he will be a worthy coup for Frank Lampard, although he is bound to face pressure from the likes of Manchester City who also want to add to their defence.
