Arsenal fans are bound to be angry right now. They have only recently been gpoing through some good form in the Premier League and it seemed like Mikel Arteta had got them on the right track, but now the Gunners have lost their previous two matches against Wolves and Aston Villa.

It was bittersweet for the Gunners as they had to watch their former goalkeeper keep his second successive clean sheet against them since leaving the club and it leaves many pondering Arsenal’s transfer decisions of late.

And it’s not only the departures, either. It’s the incomings too. Most notably, Willian hasn’t hit the heights Arsenal fans would have liked him to and after getting two assists on his debut, it looks like the Brazilian is just another Mkhitaryan 2.0.

Willian did not add force to Arsenal’s push

Yet again, against Aston Villa Willian was a used substitute that came on to provide absolutely nothing. The game didn’t improve in any way and if anything, whenever Willian was on the ball, the tempo looked like it had gone out the window.

I mustn’t fall into the trap of pinpointing and scapegoating Willian for the loss; not just one player is responsible as there were other players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that could have put in more of a shift. However, with Willian this is becoming a common theme.

There are jokes flying round social media which claim Willian is an agent from Chelsea trying to worsen Arsenal. While these memes are ludicrous, with each passing week, it seems more and more likely that this could be close to the truth.

Willian was a free signing, so you cannot fault Mikel Arteta for this. However, keeping up the hope with a player that doesn’t provide anything seems stupid, it’s not like there’s any hope for the future either since Willian is nearing the end of his career.
