Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been Arsenal’s best striker over the last decade and although he is currently undergoing a dry patch, he will soon be back to his old scoring ways. As the old saying, form is temporary, class is permanent.

But players don’t last forever. Especially players of Aubameyang’s mould, that rely a lot on their pace in order to score goals. When the time comes, the time will come and Arsenal will need to replace the Gabon international so it’s better to get a head-start in this regard now.

According to a new report from The Sun, the Gunners are doing exactly that. The report claims that Arsenal are closing in on a deal which would see them land Tiago Tomas for just £20m, which is an incredible bargain given his worth and the fact he is just 18 years old.

Tomas could be Arsenal’s next star

Tomas is considered to be one of the next big things in Portugal as he is a Sporting Lisbon prodigy. I’m sure that under the right tutelage of Mikel Arteta and if he spends time learning from Lacazette and Aubameyang, he will prosper into an amazing player.

Players like this are completely worth the risk. Hey, it seems to be working out with Gabriel Martinelli. It’s important not to place too much pressure on them, though. Given his cut-price value, he won’t have as much media pressure on him.

Arteta has his critics and rightly so, especially in recent months. But one thing no one can fault him for is that he’s building for the future and working the best with what he’s got available to him. He admitted when he was first appointed that there’s a lot of work to do and that fans shouldn’t expect too much from him in the first number of seasons, so the fact that he’s even won silverware is impressive enough.

If Tomas is a sign of what’s to come in future transfer windows, then Arsenal fans should be excited.
