3. Clean-sheet… denied!

At the start of the second half when the Gunners were 4-0 up, it was looking likely that the home side were going to keep a clean sheet, but the rest of the game didn’t go to plan.

Arsenal still had plenty of attacking opportunities in the second half, but when they lost the ball, Leeds were able to expose them a little bit more and get into the area more easily.

Arsenal conceded the goals within ten minutes of each other as Leeds’s attacking players were able to get themselves into the right positions to capitalise on their chances.

The Gunners were able to hold on for the final 20 minutes, although Leeds had plenty more chances, where they tried to close down the Arsenal defence.

It was a completely different game to the reverse fixture at Elland Road back in late November, where the game ended goalless, but Leeds had 20+ shots on goal and pressed Arsenal for the entire 90 minutes.

Leeds certainly didn’t press or show any threat in front of goal in the first half, but once they began to pick Arsenal apart in the second half, they became more of a threat on the counter-attack and Arsenal sat back a bit too much at moments.

A very promising win for the Gunners with so many positives to take. Arsenal’s next game is their round of 32 Europa League tie against Benfica on Thursday where they look to continue to extend their unbeaten run in the campaign.
