#1 Ben Godfrey (Everton)

One successful summer signing that not many seem to be talking about is Everton’s Ben Godfrey. The £20 million fee the Toffees paid Norwich is starting to look like a bargain.

Godfrey was not particularly impressive in a leaky Norwich defense in his first full Premier League season, but there’s a reason Carlo Ancelotti wanted to bring him to Goodison Park. The 23-year-old has been one of Everton’s standout players this season.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, Godfrey really is blessed with unusual pace – so much so that he’s played at both right back and left back in a season where Everton have had plenty of injury issues at the full back positions.

Having played in midfield in his youth career, Godfrey has impressive technical abilities on the ball as well. He’s also a fantastic one-on-one defender, and like Tapsoba, he’d be able to cover Maguire’s weaknesses.

Next. Tottenham will offer Mourinho his final ultimatum. dark

The problem here is obvious. As an English youngster on the verge of being called up for the national team, his value has likely sky-rocketed since the summer (and will go further up if he’s selected for the Euros). But as the only player here with Premier League experience, it might be worth shelling out even up to £50 million for his services.
