Arsenal: Mikel Arteta teases Odegaard could stay beyond his contract
By Kian Long
Arsenal’s latest signing Martin Odegaard has been in good form since making his debut for the club. While he is yet to start racking up the numbers, his creativity on the pitch has been noted, hence his run of game time across all competitions.
The Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is clearly a big fan of the prodigy which is why he pushed the board to bring him to the club. However, you always run the risk of falling in love with a loan player, which is what the Gunners did with Dani Ceballos (although luckily his loan contract was extended).
The same fate could be ahead for Odegaard, which I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. At least in North London he is essentially guaranteed game time, and playing in England adds a new dynamic to his game.

According to a report from the Times, Arteta has suggested that Arsenal could be working with Real Madrid to keep the youngster beyond his contract. Whether this is a permanent deal or simply a loan extension remains to be seen but one thing’s for sure; the two clubs have a tremendous transfer history.
Odegaard is a creative midfielder that flourishes in the final third, one that Arsenal needed given the departure of Mesut Ozil recently. While Thomas Partey too is very creative, he is more an all-round midfielder so Arsenal will require a player that focuses on his creative exploits. Odegaard is exactly that.
So it seems like a win-win for Arsenl to keep Odegaard. The midfielder they will inevitably be looking for in the summer transfer window could be on their own doorstep, but they just require a stellar bit of negotiating with Florentino Perez and company.
Do you think Arsenal will manage to keep ahold of Martin Odegaard?
