New Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is no stranger to calling the shots, but this is exactly what the board look for in a manager, hence why they chose to appoint him to replace Frank Lampard.
The boss is off to a good start, but he is already eyeing ways he can improve on the form he’s seen from his side and that is in the transfer window. Arriving in London, Tuchel knew that at Chelsea he would receive plenty of financial backing, so I’m sure he had multiple plans lined up in the back of his mind.
According to a report from Caught Offside, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy are acting on one of these plans already. They report that Chelsea and Bayern Munich are in an open dialogue over the potential transfer of Niklas Sule.
Niklas Sule is perfect for Chelsea
Sule was once considered one of the ones to watch in Germany but he has developed well at Bayern Munich since signing. He is now 25 and entering into the prime stages of his career, although as a defender he would still be a long-term signing for Chelsea.
Tuchel will know all about Sule’s immense ability as a defender from his time coaching Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Sule is a brick wall that is more than capable of standing in the way of his opposition to win back possession for his side.
He would make the perfect defensive partner for Thiago Silva because I assume Silva will still be going next season, however, when the Brazil international retires, Sule is the perfect man to fill his boots alongside Rudiger. I feel like all the defenders will have something they can learn from one another.
So, all in all, this transfer strikes me as a good one. Tuchel is strengthening in a position of need with a player he is familiar with, and the deal will be cheap too (CaughtOffside report a fee of around £26m).
