Yet another slow start for Chivas

11. Querétaro  (3-1-3, 10 points, –1)

The Gallos Blancos squandered a home win over the weekend by giving up a late penalty against Puebla, settling for a draw that surely felt like a loss. The club brought in former Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia and his presence in midfield has been transformative, but now the Gallos will be without Gil Álcala for three months after the keeper suffered broken ribs. On a positive note, newcomer Joe Gallardo scored his first Liga MX goal in minute 84 against Puebla in just his fourth appearance.

12. Guadalajara  (1-4-2, 7 points, –1)

The Chivas are underachieving again this season and coach Víctor Manuel Vucetich seems to be at the end of his rope. The young studs that were supposed to restore the club to past glory seem to be free-styling too much and abandoning the game plan. Vucetich has been forced to tinker with his line-up, hoping to find a group that will embrace the disciplined tactics that have earned the manager five Liga MX championships with four different franchises.

13. FC Juárez  (2-2-2, 8 points, –4)

The Bravos have been woefully inconsistent. They followed a 2-1 victory at Guadalajara with a 4-0 loss at Puebla, then claimed a 1-0 home win over Mazatlán FC. Coach Luis Fernando Tena has not found a capable strike partner for Darío Lezcano and the team has just 4 goals in 6 games.

14. Mazatlán FC  (2-1-4, 7 points, –8)

Tommy Boy’s team has allowed 13 goals, conceding 3 or more in three games, and new goalie Nicolás Vikonis is under constant attack. Boy likes his teams to play vertically, but until he figures out how to protect his own goal (a 5-man back line, maybe?) this club will be hard-pressed to chase a playoff spot this season.
