Chelsea receive big blow as Manchester City set to rival them for Haaland

Chelsea are no strangers to challenging the financial powerhouses in the transfer market so this news won’t come as too much as a shock to hear. However, the board will now find it that little bit more difficult to secure the signing of Erling Haaland, as the Daily Star report that Manchester City are their main competitor.
Manchester City have the funds to spend on a player like this so it’s no surprise to see. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if their Manchester rivals United were to join the race, since it always seems to be the same three English teams.
Haaland has bossed it with two different teams now; RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. Having first burst onto the scene in the Champions League, I don’t want to hear anyone claiming “he isn’t Premier League proven”. Of course he’s not, but the English top flight isn’t some mystical place where only the best of the best can make it. Let’s bust that myth.

Haaland is only 20 years old but by looking at his goal scoring record throughout his career thus far you could never tell. He is a goal scoring machine and no matter the level of competition, he seems to find a way to score.
He has an unorthodox playing style that would make him perfect for the Premier League. He is very physically able as his frame allows him to fend off oppositions both from standing and aerial points of view. However, he is also a very quick player and has the ability to find space in areas where it would seem impossible to.
Chelsea’s plan to submerge Timo Werner into the English game hasn’t sufficed2 and although he is showing some signs of a resurgence under Thomas Tuchel, the signs just aren’t promising enough. That said, this Haaland news couldn’t come at a better time but they will need to offer big to outbid City.
