Manchester United hit with blow by most-wanted Leicester player
By Kian Long
Manchester United’s quest to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester City just got incredibly harder, if it wasn’t difficult enough already. According to a report from the Sunday Mirror, Leicester have now begun advanced talks with the midfielder over a contract extension.
It was always going to be a difficult task for the Red Devils anyway, with Liverpool also supposedly interested in signing him. That, plus the fact young English players are ridiculously overpriced in the current transfer market.
Barnes is a phenomenal player and having played alongside Jamie Vardy this season, he knows a thing or two about playing with the best of the best. While Leicester are in an incredible position given their club’s size, they are not quite cream of the crop yet. Barnes will be ready to take the next step in his career by challenging for trophies.
Harvey Barnes would be perfect for Manchester United

United are, of course, in the market to improve their attack. While their defence could still do with some work, ultimately you need to be scoring and creating chances to win games. Barnes would certainly provide the creative side of things, while maintaining the ability to get on the score sheet himself.
So does it mean that United should just give up in their chase? No, of course not. At the end of the day, it all boils down to the player and their agent to sign the contract and should they wish not to, United will be back in pole position. But as of right now, Barnes won’t be too interested in all this transfer talk, he will simply want to be playing each week so he can impress Gareth Southgate in time for the Euros.
The good news is, Barnes isn’t United’s only option. He would be a great signing, yes, but fans shouldn’t be too disheartened if he stays with Leicester.
