Arsenal: Shocking news report suggests Mikel Arteta could join Barcelona

After just over a year with the club, Mikel Arteta divides opinion. While he led Arsenal to an FA Cup win against the odds and is working well with the young players available to him, the Gunners do find themselves in mid table of the Premier League which is subpar by their standards.

The Gunners are beginning to find their form, though, and Mikel Arteta’s position in charge is more content than it has been throughout this season. But this doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to be staying, especially if new reports are to be believed.

According to the Mirror, Barcelona are eyeing Arteta as a potential favourite of Joan Laporta, who could soon take charge as presiedent. If he were to be elected, he will likely try to prize Arteta away from North London.

And obviously, that would take a lot. Arteta is a respectful guy and being under contract at the Emirates Stadium, he has always honoured the club and he is the first to say he wants to build something long-term, if he is given the trust.

However, it’s still worrying times for Arsenal and understandably so. Barcelona are a massive club with a huge pull, and being a proud Spaniard who’s worked with Pep Guardiola, he’ll know just the amount of prestige and privilege it is to be the manager of such a historic club.

It would be a shame to see Arsenal lose a manager after only a year of service, especially when it’s not out of choice. That said, I’m sure the board who have a close relationship with Arteta will have a conversation with him over this interest, just so both parties can see where they stand. I guess we as fans will just have to wait and hope for the best, but I’m sure that option will prevail.
