MOTM for Calum Chambers

Arsenal right-back Calum Chambers has not been a regular starter for the club and so when his name appears in the starting line up, you wonder whether it’s a tactical disaster from the boss or a tactical masterclass, and today it was certainly the latter.

The Englishman was involved in plenty of the action at the Olympic Stadium, including Arsenal’s first goal where he played a lovely ball over the top Lacazette whose goal went down as an own goal.

Chambers made a total of eight crosses into the box, as well as attempting two long balls and creating three chances himself. His ability to get the ball into the box so confidently and assuredly was great to see and it will also be a massive boost for him as a player going forward.

His overlapping runs were also evident and he was never scared to get forward and create chances for his teammates.

The 26-year old has shown he definitely wants to prove himself and with Arteta giving him starts, his confidence will only increase game-by-game and although his future at the club is uncertain, to see him do so well, especially being sidelined for so long due to his ACL injury, is really great to see.

This was definitely a strong performance from someone who has only started twice for the first time since December 2019 and there has certainly been a debate on whether the MOTM should have been awarded to him or Martin Odegaard, but when a player has been out for so long and is so influential in a game, it’s hard not to give them the credit they deserve.
