West Ham 3-3 Arsenal: 3 talking points as Chambers inspires comeback
Where was Aubameyang?
Today’s game saw some great performances from the likes of Odegaard, Chambers and Lacazette, but one player that didn’t show up today was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The striker’s pass accuracy was 63%, making him the lowest Arsenal player and second-lowest player on the pitch in terms of pass accuracy.
The Gabonese international only managed a total of 17 accurate passes, which was comfortably the lowest on the pitch as an Arsenal player and the striker just couldn’t get involved in the action and it makes you question his position in the starting line up.
Whether he’s played on the left or up-front on his own, Aubameyang likes to drift out to the left anyway and cut into the box to create chances, which when he’s up-front, can always leave big gaps that other players don’t run into on-time, which can limit the number of chances created.
Lacazette was very much involved in the action today, being directly involved in two of the goals Arsenal scored and he was always in the box trying to capitalise on the chances created, but Aubameyang didn’t seem to get involved and almost lingered in the box.
Going forward, Arteta could possibly look to playing Lacazette and Aubameyang up-front together, which would hopefully maximise the number of goals scored from the chances created
This also allows the likes of Emile Smith-Rowe and Pepe to be played on the left-wing but also have Aubameyang in the starting XI as well.
Personally, Arteta should start giving Gabriel Martinelli more minutes and benching Aubameyang in certain games, to give the youngster time to prove what he brings to the side and maybe then Aubameyang will realise the difference that starting other people down the left-hand side might have.
