Barcelona’s title hopes may have taken a decisive blow after drawing 3-3 away to Levante. The Bluagrana blew two different leads after entering the second half up by two.

The draw put them one point ahead of Real Madrid and one point behind Atletico Madrid but having played an extra game.

Had the Catalans held on to their lead, they could have gone top of the league and put pressure on their rivals. Instead, it was the club crumbling in a game that mattered. A sight seen far too often this season.

All the players were optimistic that they could win a few weeks ago. It seems that the loss to Granada at home turned everything completely upside down.

Barcelona players seem resigned to their fate.

After the game, Sergio Busquets admitted that the result put a dent in their aspirations and that it would now be difficult to see themselves win the league.

"“We don’t have much of a chance now,” Busquets said postgame. “It will depend on our rivals, but this is our own fault, [bad] decisions, a lack of concentration. We concede goals too easily.“We don’t feel good. because it was alway going to be difficult, but we wanted to put pressure on those a the top. We had the lead, but as has happened this season, [Levante] scored goals too easily. The point doesn’t mean much because that’s the league practically over for us. We’ve dropped too many points to fight for the title.”Source: ESPN"

An honest Busquets summed up Barcelona’s season in a nutshell.

The Jekyll and Hide nature of the Catalans resulted in too many dropped points – a number of them from winning positions. There were too many self-inflicted defensive mistakes that led to goals.

Even in games where Barcelona won, there always seemed moments where the opposing side would easily slice through the defense and midfield and create a chance.

Out of the top four teams in the table, Barcelona has the highest goal differential. But they’ve also conceded 36 goals, which is the most by a decent margin. Defensively, they simply haven’t been up to par.

Anything can happen but it appears that Barcelona’s title chances are done and dusted. While they can be credited with making things as close as they did considering where they were at the start of the new year, the players and manager will feel like they let a golden opportunity slip away from them.
