Sergio Ramos’ time at Real Madrid has come to an end as the center-back and club captain is set to leave the Spanish giants.

The club sent out an official release stating that a press conference will be held on Thursday where they will hold a tribute and act of farewell for Ramos. President Florentino Perez will also be in attendance.

The news does not come as a complete shock as his contract is set to expire on June 30 and they were not able to come to an agreement on a new deal. According to Marca, Madrid offered Ramos a one-year deal with a 10 percent cut in salary. Ramos was looking for at least a two-year deal.

Still, there was hope that some sort of conclusion could be reached that would keep the 35-year-old stay with Los Blancos.

He had been linked with a move to the Premier League and LaLiga side, Sevilla. Monchi, Sevilla’s sporting director, previously downplayed those rumors.

"“He’s a Real Madrid player. I think he’s in talks with Real Madrid now to extend his contract, that’s all I can say,” Monchi said.Source: Managing Madrid"

Ramos will go down as a Real Madrid legend.

Ramos’ Real Madrid career is filled with a number of highlights. Highlights that will be replayed countless times in the coming days.

He was part of a club that won a handful of LaLiga titles and won back-to-back-to-back Champions League titles. No one can doubt he is already a club icon.

He’s become synonymous with the club and someone that immediately comes to mind when talking about Madrid. Especially when it comes to the rivalry with Barcelona.

Despite being 35, he’s unlikely to be without his fair share of suitors. In addition to England and Spain, he’s also been linked to Paris and PSG. Interest from MLS sides are likely to be there as well.

Last season was filled with ups and downs for the center-back who dealt with injuries nearly all season. He was able to come back for the second leg against Chelsea in the Champions League but was unable to save Madrid from elimination.

Real Madrid are in a spot where they know they need a squad refresh and that means a number of heavyweights are going to be moved on. First it was Zinedine Zidane and now it’s Ramos.
