Ronaldo was not at training with Juventus and had made public in the last few days his desire to leave the Italian giants.
The Red Devils beat out Manchester City in acquiring the forward. City were one of the teams inquiring about Ronaldo and it was believed he would be joining Pep Guardiola’s team until United stepped in.
The club released an official statement confirming the signing.
“Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical,” the club release said.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri stated that Ronaldo told him he was ready for a new adventure and had all but considered him gone.
"“Yesterday, Cristiano Ronaldo communicated to me that he has no intention of remaining at Juventus,” Allegri told a news conference ahead of Saturday’s Serie A clash with Empoli. “For this reason, he has not been selected.”Source: ESPN"
Ronaldo returns to his former club after 12 years, which included stops at Real Madrid and the aforementioned Juventus.
He is not the sample player he was when he left and given his age, it will be interesting to see how he is used by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They have a lot of attacking players on their squad so managing minutes and keeping the rest happy are going to be a test for the manager.
