Poor start to season has Newcastle near bottom of the table

Is Steve Bruce the right man for Newcastle United? That question has been debated heavily seemingly since he took over his boyhood club in 2019.

The results for Newcastle under Bruce’s reign have not been the most inspiring. Newcastle has taken just 92 points from the 83 Premier League games since Bruce took over. That comes out to around 1.11 points per match on average.

Certainly not the worst managerial tenure we’ve seen, but it isn’t great, and the Newcastle supporters are growing increasingly frustrated.

Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) survey reveals fan displeasure

According to ITV, NUST received 5,649 survey responses. Those who shared their thoughts with the NUST gave the following answers: 94.3% said manager Steve Bruce should resign, 94.4% think those in power at Newcastle United will fail to make the “necessary changes” to avoid relegation and 95.9% believe that Newcastle will be relegated this season.

The survey results were released just days before a Saudi Arabian-led consortium announced a takeover of Newcastle United. Some respondents would surely have different opinions now.

The takeover will see Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund take an 80% stake in the club, thus bringing an end to Mike Ashley’s 14-year ownership of the club. It appears that the other 20% stake will belong to PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media.

The consortium is led by British businesswoman Amanda Staveley who bought out Ashley for around $415 million.

"His Excellency Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Governor of PIF, will serve as Non-Executive Chairman of Newcastle United. Amanda Staveley, chief executive of PCP Capital Partners, will have one seat on the board. Jamie Reuben will also be a director of the Club, representing RB Sports & Media.Commenting on the agreement, His Excellency Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Governor of PIF, said: “We are extremely proud to become the new owners of Newcastle United, one of the most famous clubs in English football.“We thank the Newcastle fans for their tremendously loyal support over the years and we are excited to work together with them.”Source: Newcastle United"

The new ownership will see many changes at Newcastle and reports suggest that Bruce may be out of a job in the coming days.

Newcastle is now one of the richest clubs in world football. The deep pockets of the club’s new owners are expected to be put to good use in the upcoming winter transfer window.
