Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not the only person at Manchester United whose future is in serious doubt. The same can be applied to Paul Pogba.

According to ESPN, the Red Devils are prepared to let the French midfielder walk away on a free at the end of the season. The report mentions United were well aware of the likelihood of Pogba potentially running down his contract when they signed him five years ago.

Talks between the club and Pogba regarding a contract extension have stalled as United seem to be admitting defeat.

Pogba’s time at Manchester United has been a rollercoaster

Expectations were high when United signed him from Juventus. He was returning to his former club after leaving to get more playing time.

His second term at United has been filled with ups and downs. He can look brilliant and make awe-inspiring passes one minute and appear completely disinterested the next.

Solskjaer didn’t answer questions regarding Pogba’s future, but did offer support following the criticism and fallout from the Liverpool defeat, including dispelling the rumor the Frenchman snubbed him after.

"“We can’t accept when lies are made up, Solskjaer said. “Paul told me what he put up out on his social media account. We’re better than that, as a group, the culture is better here, the environment is better, when it’s blatant lies they’ve got to stand up and say so. Opinions and reports, fine, but don’t make up lies about me.“The players come in, proper professionals, come in, good people. As I said, we have the environment in and around the place, we have loads of respect for each other.“When you come in for criticism like you do you come into the trenches with your teammates, and that reaction I’ve seen this week. Whatever this club has been through before, it’s about getting through with courage, self-belief, sticking together and this group has done.”Source: Manchester Evening News"

In any case, Pogba won’t be available for the match against Tottenham as he will be serving a suspension after being shown a red card against Liverpool.

As far as his future is concerned, it seems likely to be far away from Manchester. Clubs including Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus are said to be interested in him, though all three will wait until the summer so as not to have to pay a fee.

If Pogba does end up leaving, it’s going to be difficult to see his time at United as anything other than a disappointment. Fair to say he did not live up to the standards expected of him when he first arrived. An argument can be made, however, that he had nowhere near the help he had while at Juventus.
