Barcelona strategizing to find a way to sign Ferran Torres

Representatives from Barcelona flew to Manchester a couple of days ago and speculation ran rampant the reason they were there was to negotiate for Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling.

Turns out they did go to Manchester City to negotiate for a player only it wasn’t Sterling. It was for Ferran Torres.

The player reportedly wants a move to Barcelona and City manager Pep Guardiola will not stand in his way. The only thing, which is also the most important thing, is for both clubs to come to an agreement.

From the Barcelona perspective, it is going to be a tough negotiation considering the amount of money City would want for Torres. According to Sport, the asking price is € 80 million, an amount Barcelona are incapable of agreeing to given their current financial situation.

His potential arrival would solve two of the club’s biggest issues this season. One, he would fill the role of a winger, which Barcelona need as they cannot rely on Ousmane Dembele or Ansu Fati due to their injuries.

Second, he could also provide the answer to their striker problem. With Spain, and at times with City, he has been used as a false “9.” While not your typical striker, he can successfully fill that role.

Knowing their limitation, the club is strategizing to find a way to be able to sign Torres. One way they could do that is by including a player, or players, in a potential swap deal. It remains to be seen if Barcelona have any players that would interest City.

Some players who might interest the Premier League side would be Nico, Pedri, Gavi or Frenkie de Jong, but Xavi and Barcelona consider these players essential and are not going to part ways with any of them.

There is still some time before the start of the winter transfer window. No doubt Barça are going to try to offload players to make room in the squad and on the wage bill. Ideally, they would want to sign Torres come January but, as it stands, it seems a near impossible task.
