Barcelona making progress in pursuit of Man City’s Ferran Torres

One of the weak points Barcelona need to improve on – not just during the winter but the summer transfer window as well – is their attack. The injuries to Martin Braithwaite, Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembèlè has left the club short of options.

The major issue standing in their way is their lack of funds. That is why it was surprising when news broke that the Catalans were interested in Manchester City’s Ferran Torres. Even more so considering the Premier League side reportedly want €80 million for the Spanish forward.

However, despite those glaring obstacles, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are making progress with Manchester City on a potential deal.

The report states that the two sides are not too far apart and Barcelona are even optimistic a deal could be reached come January when the transfer window opens. The player wants to join and Pep Guardiola will not get in the way of Torres leaving.

Still, the transfer fee is unlikely to be insignificant which leaves one to wonder how Barcelona will come up with the money to pay the transfer fee.

Barcelona supporters also got some cause for optimism following the words of club CEO Ferran Reverter.

"“There is no doubt that Barcelona will sign or can sign [players] in January and the summer,” Reverter said.Source:  Marca"

Torres appears to be their main target and has jumped ahead of other rumored players like Dani Olmo.

A couple of months ago, it would have been near impossible to imagine any scenario where Torres left City. But his injury and the re-emergence of Raheem Sterling has thrown a wrench in those plans.

Once the winter transfer window opens, Torres’ future is likely to be resolved. At the moment, Barcelona is optimistic but anything can happen. Especially with a club like Barcelona who are not generally known for their prowess in the transfer market.
