Ansu Fati opts against surgery in favor of conservative treatment plan
Despite Barcelona pushing for Ansu Fati to undergo surgery, the 19-year-old has chosen to follow a conservative treatment plan. The club made the news official and released a statement confirming the player’s decision.
Had Fati decided to go under the knife, his estimated recovery time would have been between two to three months. In essence, he would have missed the remainder of the season. With the conservative treatment, his recovery time is approximately 10 weeks, meaning he could feature again this season.
The club wanted him to get surgery in order to decrease the likelihood he suffers another relapse. They were trying to convince him up until the last moment but their efforts were futile.
Barcelona are not going to rush him back and will be closely monitoring his recovery process.
Xavi Hernandez spoke about Fati and his injury as well as the need to recover him mentally as much as physically.
"“It’s a pity,” Xavi said. “He had just recovered his confidence and was doing well. He is very affected.“We need him, we have lost an impressive footballer, so it affects us all but most of all, Ansu.“We have to recover him mentally and make him forget about the injuries.“We have to be positive and hope that he doesn’t get injured anymore.”Source: ESPN"
The mental aspect is important considering it likely played a factor in Fati deciding against surgery. This past year, he’s undergone a handful of injuries, suffering setbacks in the process. It’s a situation he would rather not find himself in again.
It would be a bonus for Barcelona if he plays for them again this season. But that should be the last thing on their mind.
The only thing the Catalans should be focused on is making sure Fati’s recovery goes well and he can get past the injuries once and for all. In addition, both sides are going to be hoping that going the conservative treatment route is the right way to go.
