PSG prepared to make Kylian Mbappe highest-paid player
Kylian Mbappe’s future may have taken an unexpected turn
The consensus before the start of the season was Kylian Mbappe was going to run down his contract at Paris Saint-Germain and then sign on a free with Real Madrid.
That was also one of the storylines heading into the Champions League Round of 16 match against Real Madrid.
However, his plans may be changing, much to the dismay of Madrid and their supporters.
According to The Indepenent, PSG have reportedly made a new attempt to re-sign their French starlet. Should he agree to their proposal, Mbappe is set to become the highest-paid player in the sport.
Some of the details reported by The Independent state PSG would “pay him weekly wages in excess of £500,000, and closer to £1 million a week.”
Wages that not even Real Madrid would be able to afford.
The offer is one the 23-year-old is considering which would be a complete reversal to what everyone had been speculating all season long.
Mbappe scored the winner against Real Madrid and it certainly could have played a part both in what PSG are now willing to offer and the player’s willingness to stay.
At the very least, seeing the Madrid performance on Tuesday could have made Mbappe reconsider joining them. Los Blancos seem to be in rebuild mode despite topping LaLiga. They have plenty of holes to fix and Mbappe may not want to be part of that.
Mbappe has been Madrid’s obsession for the better part of two years. They made attempts during the summer to pry him away even though they knew he only had one year left on his contract. Their attempts were rebuffed by PSG.
The fact Mbappe is now considering the latest proposal from PSG may mean he is having second doubts about leaving. If the reported wages turn out to be true, it definitely shows how much his current club want to keep him. Those two factors could end up tipping the balance back towards the Parisian side’s favor.
