Liga MX Rankings 10

Matchday 10 is behind us (with five matches pending before all clubs reach double-digits in games played), the perfect time to launch the Playing for 90 Liga MX Power Rankings.

A glance at the league table might give fans a bit of an upside-down feeling, but with only seven matchdays remaining contenders and pretenders have begun to identify themselves.

Fickle performances and stunning upsets have forced seven coaches into unemployment – and several more have one foot out the door (Ignacio Ambriz is reportedly hanging by a thread at Toluca. If the Diablos don’t win at Estadio Azteca against last place América on Sunday, “Nacho” could be sent packing).

Thus far, five teams can claim to have legitimate title hopes, while another – Monterrey – can leap into contention by winning its two make-up games. No team is mathematically eliminated from the 12-team playoff field (a huge relief for already embarrassed América fans) so there will be plenty of jockeying down the stretch.

Inaugural Clausura 2022 Power Rankings

This list is not a projection of where these clubs will finish, and it is not recommended that they be used for wagering.

Instead, the rankings reflect the current form of the team although long-term injuries can – and will – impact a club’s rating.

In the initial list, we’ll provide the team’s won-loss record and other stats, but in the future we’ll also emphasize the team’s movement compared to the previous rankings.

So without further ado, here are your No. 1 ranked teams in the Playing for 90 Liga MX Power Rankings … did I write “teams”? Oh, yes … our exhaustive tabulations produced a tie.

Read on …

1a. Pachuca

(22 points, 7-1-1, 20 goals for, 8 goals allowed)

1b. Tigres

(20 points, 6-2-1, 20 goals for 13 goals allowed)

Pachuca is on a 5-1-0 run; the Tigres do the Tuzos one better, a 6-1-0 stretch. Pachuca has outscored opponents 15-5 during their streak; the Tigres have netted 19 times in their past seven games (while conceding 10).

Had their Matchday 9 game not been postponed in the aftermath of the Querétaro stadium debacle, the question of who’s the best Liga MX team might already have been decided. As it is, we might have to wait a couple more weeks, although each faces a tough opponent at home on Matchday 11. The Tigres host the “Clásico Regio” against Monterrey while the Tuzos welcome Cruz Azul to Estadio Hidalgo.
