Visiting Santos Laguna scored twice in 90 seconds to erase a late Puebla lead and continue its ascent out of the Liga MX basement.

The host Camoteros were on the verge of climbing back atop the Liga MX table after Israel Reyes (57’) and Martín Barragán (74’) found the back of the net to take control of the high-intensity match.

But then Leo Suárez found a second wind. The little Argentine sent Eduardo Aguirre in alone on keeper Antony Silva to cut the deficit in half (78’) then flicked home a header off a long throw-in from Ronald Prieto (80’) to equalize.

Santos almost claimed a winner a few minutes later when Harold Preciado almost converted a long pass from – you guessed it – Suárez.

Liga MX president to take in a game this weekend

Mikel Arriola will be on hand to watch Sunday’s “Clásico Tapatío,” presumably to see how the Fan ID program functions in a “high-risk game.”

The Chivas-Zorros match will be the first Liga MX game for which access via Fan ID is mandatory.

Atlas management has already announced that they will not permit its own “barra brava” (supporters’ group”) to attend, and Guadalajara’s fan group is prohibited from attending since all visiting “barras” are barred from attending away matches for the remainder of the Clausura 2022.

The host team has arranged for 1,500 security agents to be on hand to watch over the typically rowdy Estadio Jalisco atmosphere during a Guadalajara derby.

Coaching carousel continues

Struggling FC Juárez desperately wants Ricardo Ferretti to stay on as manager, offering the irascible coach a two-year extension this week.

Unfortunately for the Bravos, “Tuca” is not interested and he has made clear that he intends to step aside at the end of the Clausura 2022, convinced that the team simply doesn’t have sufficient quality on the roster to keep him on board.

Last-place América will be searching for a new coach come summertime, too, and Hugo Sánchez’s name is being floated as a candidate.

There is no indication that “Hugol” – a former Aguilas star – is being considered by the team who will be relying upon interim coach Fernando Ortiz for the remainder of the season.
