In danger of becoming Liga MX also rans

12. UNAM (–2)

3-2-5, 11 points (15 goals for, 13 goals against)

The Pumas had no energy in reserve after Wednesday’s miraculous comeback victory in the Concacaf Champions League. Their lack of a bench really hurt them against Necaxa.

13. Tijuana (+2)

4-2-4, 14 points (9 goals for, 14 goals against)

The offensively challenged Xolos (9 goals) took advantage of a poor FC Juárez team, the only Liga MX team with worse offensive production (8 goals).

14. Toluca (–3)

4-1-5, 13 points (10 goals for, 20 goals against)

The Diablos have the worst defense in Liga MX. Fortunately, América misfired plenty in the second half or the 3-0 loss could have been even more humiliating.

15. Atlético de San Luis (–3)

3-1-6, 10 points (11 goals for, 14 goals against)

The Tuneros handed Puebla its first loss of the season last week then turned in a stinker against Querétaro. Coach André Jardine was not pleased.

16. Querétaro (+2)

2-5-4, 11 points (10 goals for, 15 goals against)

The Gallos Blancos cobbled together their second win of the season but with no home games the rest of the season (part of the punishment for the March 5 riot at La Corregidora) will make their playoff chase extra difficult.

17. Mazatlán FC (—)

2-1-7, 7 points (11 goals for, 19 goals against)

The Cañoneros have not won since Feb. 16 and are in desperate need of points to avoid slipping into the “Relegation Penalty Zone.”

Next. Historic evening for NWSL in California. dark

18. FC Juárez (–2)

2-2-7, 8 points (8 goals for, 16 goals against)

The Bravos look certain to be forking over big bucks at the end of the season unless they start to earn some points. That’s not likely.
