Barcelona without Pedri for the rest of the season
The Barcelona midfielder was subbed out during halftime in the loss to Frankfurt
The bad news keeps on coming for Barcelona following their Europa League exit at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt.
After running more tests, the club released a statement confirming the Spanish midfielder suffered an injury to his left hamstring though they did not give a timetable as to how long he would be out.
According to Marca, Pedri is set to miss the remainder of the season as the recovery process for his type of injury is usually around six to eight weeks.
With LaLiga ending in late Mar and with Barcelona nothing to play for, it makes no sense to rush him back as this is the second long-term injury he’s picked up this season.
The 19-year-old was continuing on from an impressive debut season and has become central to the Catalan side under Xavi Hernandez. Xavi has lauded praise on the young starlet seemingly after every match. But now he’s going to have to do without him for the rest of the season.
Barcelona has been a bit unlucky with long-term injuries to their young players. Ansu Fati is close to returning from his hamstring injury at the same time Pedri has gone down.
Moving forward, the Barcelona manager is going to have to count on other midfielders to step up. Pedri’s replacement is likely to be Gavi, making up the midfield trio alongside Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets.
It might also mean Nico Gonzalez gets more playing time as well as Riqui Puig.
In any event, Barcelona has to take the safest approach regarding Pedri as they’re going to need him next season if they want to make a serious challenge both in the league and in Europe.
