The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga set to reach its conclusion

Throughout the Kylian Mbappe transfer speculation, the safe — and obvious — bet was he was going to run down his contract at PSG and then sign with Real Madrid on a free transfer. Even more so when he wanted to leave before the start of the season.

But PSG never gave up on trying to convince their star player to sign a new contract and it seems like their persistence has paid off.

According to multiple reports, Mbappe is set to snub Real Madrid and instead sign an extension with PSG.

Mbappe was going to announce his decision on Foot Mercato but his decision has now been spoiled.

With the saga surrounding his future all but over, the 23-year-old is the winner in all of this as he is likely to sign a massive contract with PSG, making him the best-paid player in the world.

The “losers” are Real Madrid who believed they had Mbappe tied up and were on the point of putting pen to paper. According to ESPN, there was growing pessimism at the club over the recent weeks as the player had not made a decision either way.

If, indeed, he does end up staying at PSG, it will be a massive blow to Florentino Perez as Mbappe was going to be leader of his new project alongside Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. The Real Madrid president must have had an inclination of where things were headed as he reportedly told the dressing room, following the draw with Real Betis, Mbappe wasn’t coming.

With Erling Haaland signing for Manchester City, the two biggest transfers of the summer will be over fairly quickly.

Deciding to stay at PSG instead of going to Real Madrid is a risky move for Mbappe. However, if he is going to get as much decision power as has been speculated, he will no doubt be the leader going forward, above the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi.
